Small booklet containing 9 identical 'Metro tickets' on thick brown cardboard. The Dutch printer Frans de Jong published this booklet as a protest against the demolition of the Nieuwmarktbuurt for the construction of the last part of Amsterdam's first metro line. On the morning of March 24, 1975, a huge column of riot police approached the neighborhood to evacuate the first houses on Recht Boomssloot. This booklet was published on the eve of the riots by De Jong in a very limited edition of 20 numbered copies. This is copy number 11. Many historic buildings in the historic city center were demolished for this Metro line. Frans de Jong and his fellow printers from Het Drukhuis had to make way for the demolition activities before. The Nieuwmarkbuurt turned into a true battlefield. There was extremely hard fighting, resulting in many injuries. Ultimately, the section of the Oostlijn through the Nieuwmarktbuurt opened on October 11, 1980. The brand new Nieuwmarkt Metro Station is adorned with images of the protests. There is also a wrecking ball. The disappearance of the old Nieuwmarkt neighborhood drastically changed the appearance of the city center. - Scarce. No copies registered in worldcat. William Morris founded the Kelmscott Press after a lifelong crusade against the dehumanizing effects of Victorian industrialism. The work of Karel Martens occupies an intriguing place in the present European art-and-design landscape. Martens can be placed in the tradition of Dutch modernism - in the line of figures such as Piet Zwart, H.N. Werkman, Willem Sandberg. Yet he maintains some distance from the main developments of our time: from both the practices of routinized modernism and of the facile reactions against this. Scarce complete set of two numbers of this iIllegally printed literary periodical (they only contain poetry), printed during the German occupation.The first issue was printed during the war by H.N. Werkman in 1000 copies, the second issue was printed in 2000 copies by Meijer's Boek- en Handelsdrukkerij in Wormerveer, still during the occupation, but distributed after the liberation.- - These are the only two numbers published under these titles, edited by Gerard den Brabander (= pseud. of J.G. Jofriet), Harold de Clauer (= pseud. of Harm Brander) and M.L.Yzebrands (pseud. of Michiel Lebertus Huizinga). Contributions by Gabriël Smit, Jan G.Elburg, A. van Pelt, A. Redeker, a.o. Most likely this concerns the Dutch architect Theunes ('Toon') Haakma Wagenaar (1908 - 1986). - Added is a self-made card (a reproduction of a drawing by H.Th. Wijdeveld pasted on a simple piece of brown paper) with the handwritten text: "To Mr. Haaksma Wagenaar. With our wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy New Year 1950 Mr. and Mrs. Wijdeveld." Original half cloth with decorated metallic stiff paper wrappers. - Front and back cover with some creasing along the extremities. Due to the experimental design (by Zwart) of inter-leaving full-pages with half pages, an (intentional) crease developed vertical along the front and back-cover (the brands logo was positioned as such that this fold runs nicely through the logo and not through the lettering). * Very interesting catalogue designed by Piet Zwart resembling his graphical designs for Bruynzeel and Nederlandse Kabel Fabrikanten (NKF), but applied to a very obscure and very un-well-known sales-catalogue for Koninklijke Begeer. He is credited in the colophon. Although the title mentions that this was no. 7 of a series, no other volumes are known to have actually have been published. Thus this seems the only collaboration of Piet Zwart for Koninklijke Begeer (a manufacturer of medails, plaques, cups and other silver-items).
